Acceptable Use Policy

This policy is part of our Terms & Conditions. It sets out what MapContacts may and may not be used for. We enforce it, and a breach can end your subscription without a refund.

1. What MapContacts is for

• Local and regional market research: counting, mapping and categorising businesses
• Competitor mapping, site selection and sales territory planning
• Sourcing candidate suppliers, vendors, partners or subcontractors in a region
• Building an industry directory or a dataset for analysis or reporting
• Populating or cleaning your own CRM or internal records of local businesses
• Verifying an existing list against current listings to find closures, moves and changed numbers

2. Data limits — business listings only

The extension is designed to read only what appears on a public business listing. You must not attempt to use it, or use anything obtained through it, to build data about private individuals. Specifically, you must not:

• collect or compile information about private individuals, personal social media accounts, group members, or people in their private capacity;
• collect or infer personal attributes — age, gender, employer, job history, education, relationship status, income or location history;
• collect special category data: health, religion, ethnicity, political opinions, trade union membership, sexual orientation, or biometric data;
• combine, cross-reference or “enrich” collected business rows with data from other sources in order to profile the individuals behind those businesses;
• collect data about children, or data intended to identify or locate a specific private person.

3. No unsolicited bulk messaging

MapContacts cannot send messages, and you may not use data collected through it to do so without a lawful basis and the recipient’s agreement where the law requires it. You must not use MapContacts data to:

• send unsolicited bulk email, SMS, WhatsApp or other messages — “spam”;
• run automated calling, robocalling or cold SMS campaigns;
• upload lists to a mail-sending platform in breach of that platform’s own rules;
• contact people who have opted out, or who are listed on a do-not-call or do-not-mail register that applies to you;
• send messages that hide the sender’s identity or omit a working opt-out.

If you do contact a business whose details you collected, you are responsible for complying with the rules that apply to you — including the GDPR and the ePrivacy rules in Europe, PECR in the UK, the CAN-SPAM Act and TCPA in the United States, and CASL in Canada. Ignorance of them is not an excuse we can accept on your behalf.

4. Technical limits

You must not:

• use the extension to access anything behind a login, a paywall or an access control you are not entitled to pass;
• attempt to defeat rate limits, anti-bot measures or robots directives of a third-party site, or run the extension in a way that places an unreasonable load on a source;
• modify, repackage, automate or drive the extension outside a normal browser session in order to increase collection volume;
• circumvent licence validation, usage counting or plan limits, or share one account between multiple people;
• resell, redistribute or sublicense either the extension or collected data as a data product or lead list.

5. Unlawful and harmful use

You must not use MapContacts for anything illegal, for fraud, for harassment, stalking or intimidation, to compile a list for discriminatory purposes, or in breach of a court order, sanctions regime or export control that applies to you.

6. How we enforce this

We do not see what you collect, so most enforcement is triggered by something visible to us: an abuse report or spam complaint that names our product, a pattern of usage that no legitimate research workload explains, an attempt to bypass licence or limit checks, or an approach from a source operator or a regulator.

When that happens we may ask you to explain your use, suspend the account while we look into it, or terminate it. For a clear or repeated breach — spam in particular — we terminate immediately and may decline a refund, as set out in our Refund Policy. Where the circumstances allow, we warn you first and give you a chance to fix it.

7. Reporting abuse

If you have received unwanted messages from someone who you believe used MapContacts, or you operate a site and have a concern about how the extension behaves, write to abuse@mapcontacts.net. Include whatever detail you can — message headers, a URL, dates — and we will investigate and reply.

8. Changes

We may update this policy as the product, the sources it reads or the law change. The current version always lives at this URL, with the date above. Material changes are emailed to account holders before they take effect.
